People’s Gallery 2014

Coming up next . . . I’ll have three things in the new People’s Gallery exhibit at Austin City Hall.

The Economic Development Department is proud to announce the 10th annual People’s Gallery exhibition at Austin City Hall will officially open Friday, February 28 with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and view the exhibition which features artworks on loan from local artists, art organizations, and galleries on display throughout the first three floors of City Hall. Local indie rock band Mobley will perform on the City Hall Plaza at 8 p.m. and the Whole Foods Market trailer will be on site offering food for purchase.

The People’s Gallery is designed to showcase regional artistic endeavors and to encourage public dialog, understanding, and enjoyment of visual art. Each year, the Cultural Arts Division of the City’s Economic Development Department issues a call for artworks to Austin-area artists, galleries, museums, and arts organizations. The selected works are displayed in the public spaces of the first three floors of City Hall for one year. The 2014 exhibition jury members were artist and curator Michael Anthony García, art historian and co-owner of Tiny Park Gallery Thao Votang, and illustrator Terrence Moline.
